The story in brief

WUSF reports Florida health officials abandoned proposed school vaccination exemptions based on moral or ethical beliefs while continuing efforts to eliminate four immunization requirements. The proposed repeals cover hepatitis B, chickenpox, Hib and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines. Religious exemptions remain available. Florida’s chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics opposes the repeals, arguing they would reduce vaccination rates and increase vulnerability to disease.
